Un crime d’une violence extrême a bouleversé la ville de Dallas, au Texas, le 10 septembre 2025. Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, 50 ans, manager d’un motel, a été sauvagement tué par l’un de ses employés, un ressortissant cubain en situation irrégulière aux États-Unis. L’attaque, qui s’est déroulée devant la famille de la victime, a laissé la communauté locale dans l’horreur.
Selon la police, le suspect, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37 ans, travaillait comme employé d’entretien au Downtown Suites Motel sur Samuell Boulevard. Les tensions ont éclaté lorsqu’une simple instruction de travail a dégénéré. Nagamallaiah aurait demandé à Cobos-Martinez de ne pas utiliser une machine à laver défectueuse. Parce que la consigne a été traduite par un témoin au lieu de lui être adressée directement, l’homme aurait réagi avec une colère incontrôlable.
Les caméras de surveillance montrent Cobos-Martinez quittant une chambre pour aller chercher une machette. Il est ensuite revenu pour attaquer son supérieur. La victime a tenté de fuir vers le bureau du motel, où se trouvaient son épouse et son fils. Malgré leurs tentatives désespérées d’intervenir, l’agresseur a repoussé les proches avant de poursuivre son assaut.
L’agression a atteint un degré de barbarie rare. Après avoir mortellement frappé Nagamallaiah, Cobos-Martinez l’a décapité devant sa famille. Selon les enquêteurs, il aurait ensuite donné un coup de pied à la tête de la victime, avant de la ramasser et de la jeter dans une poubelle du motel. Des images de vidéosurveillance et les témoignages de plusieurs témoins confirment le déroulement macabre de la scène.
Arrêté peu après les faits, Cobos-Martinez fait face à une accusation de meurtre capital et reste détenu sans possibilité de libération sous caution. Les services de l’immigration (ICE) ont confirmé qu’il avait déjà été placé en détention auparavant, mais relâché en janvier 2025 sous surveillance, faute de pouvoir être expulsé vers Cuba. Cette décision soulève de vives critiques, notamment à la lumière de ses antécédents criminels dans plusieurs États américains, dont la Floride et la Californie.
Cette affaire relance le débat sur la sécurité publique, l’immigration et la gestion des étrangers en situation irrégulière ayant un passé judiciaire. Pour la famille de la victime, l’irréparable est déjà fait : un père de famille respecté, venu d’Inde pour travailler et vivre le rêve américain, a été tué de la manière la plus brutale qui soit, sous les yeux de ses proches. An Indian-origin man was brutally killed in a shocking attack at a Dallas motel on September 10, according to police. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Chandramouli Nagamallaiah, was beheaded in front of his wife and son in a violent dispute.
The attack took place at the Downtown Suites motel, located just off Interstate 30 near the Tenison Golf Course, Texas. Images from SKY 4 showed crime scene tape surrounding the property and a partition set up near a body on the sidewalk.
Dallas police named Yordanis Cobos-Martinez as the suspect in the killing. He has been arrested and charged with capital murder. Jail records show he is being held without bond and is also subject to an immigration detainer.
According to the arrest affidavit, obtained by Fox 4 News, Nagamallaiah had approached Cobos-Martinez and a female colleague while they were cleaning a motel room. He reportedly told them not to use a washing machine that was already broken.
The affidavit says Cobos-Martinez became angry because Nagamallaiah directed his comments through the female colleague, who acted as a translator, instead of addressing him directly. Video shows Cobos-Martinez leaving the room, pulling a machete "from his person," and launching a vicious attack.
Nagamallaiah ran through the motel’s parking lot, screaming for help, but the suspect chased him down and attacked with machete.
The affidavit states that Nagamallaiah’s wife and son, who were in the front office, rushed outside and tried to intervene. The suspect pushed them away several times and continued his assault.
Cobos-Martinez then repeatedly hacked at Nagamallaiah until he was decapitated. A CCTV footage showed the suspect kicking the victim’s head into the parking lot twice before carrying it to a dumpster.
Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel, who were nearby, followed the blood-covered suspect until police officers arrived and took him into custody.
According to police, Cobos-Martinez admitted to using the machete to kill Nagamallaiah. Authorities have not yet clarified whether the attack was premeditated.

The murder, which had taken place on Wednesday, saw the attacker Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, chase Nagamallaiah after the latter told him through a female colleague not to run a “broken washing machine.”
Cobos-Martinez, who tows a drawn-out criminal record featuring “grand theft auto, carjacking, false imprisonment, and sexual indecency with a child,” was reportedly enraged after the victim asked the female colleague to translate his remarks for him rather than addressing Cobos-Martinez himself.
The assailant then chased Nagamallaiah, hacked him to death, kicked his severed head around, and then dumped the victim’s head in the trash.
Nagamallaiah’s wife and son rushed to the scene, but “were shoved aside,” the reports added, without clarifying how exactly they were prevented from intervening.
Upon committing the murder, the 37-year-old discarded the machete and walked some distance while holding Nagamallaiah’s cell phone and key card, which he had seized from the victim.
He was confronted by first responders after walking a short distance.
India’s Consulate in Houston has expressed “shock and grief,” stating, “We are in touch with the family and offering all possible assistance. The accused is in custody, and we are following the matter closely.”
‘Released by US officials despite criminal record’
According to the reports, Cobos-Martinez’s is of an illegal immigration status, with Cuban authorities having blocked his return due to his criminal record.
The Department of Homeland Security “confirmed Cobos-Martinez was previously released under the [Joe] Biden administration after Cuba refused to accept him,” the India Today news magazine wrote.
The murder conjured up memories of the extensive history of hate crimes and deadly aggression throughout the United States against foreign nationals or American citizens of foreign origin.
In 2022, an eight-month-old infant, her parents, and her uncle, all of Indian origin, were kidnapped from Merced County, California, and were later found dead.
In 2017, Srinivas Kuchibhotla, an engineer from India, was shot and killed, while having dinner at a bar. He and his friend Alok Madasani were targeted by a white man shouting “get out of my country.”
In the late 1980s, a group calling themselves the “Dotbusters” would target Indian Americans, especially those wearing bindis, which mark Hindu women, with violent threats and assaults. Several attacks and some deaths were reported, turning the violent trend into a serious example of racially motivated hate violence.

And when you see young people in colleges openly celebrating the assassination of someone who dared to think differently, you know this country’s future is going to be even darker than its past.
